Pruitt Should Ban Pollution, Not the Press

U.S. EPA administrator Scott Pruitt barred news outlets CNN, E&E News, and the Associated Press from a meeting dealing with a widespread contaminant in drinking water. According to the Associated Press, "When the reporter asked to speak to an EPA public-affairs person, the security guards grabbed the reporter by the shoulders and shoved her forcibly out of the EPA building."

Pruitt has been working to censor science and now apparently wants to ban the free press as well. It's beyond time to #BootPruitt.

Showing a Daughter What Trump Wants to Unprotect

In 1985, 13-year-old Michael Brune fell in love with the spectacular red rock lands of the American West during a family vacation. This year, the Sierra Club executive director decided to take his own teenaged daughter for a backpacking trip in southern Utah to some of those same lands.Together, they hiked and explored arches, slot canyons, and waterfalls. It was magical.

So why is President Trump trying to unprotect these special places (and how can we stop him)?

When a Smiley Face Means Something Else

The USDA has unveiled long-awaited rules about how to label products made with genetically modified ingredients. To the surprise of many, the rules do away with the instantly recognizable "GMO" and "genetically modified" labels and instead instruct companies to use a term that most consumers probably aren’t familiar with: "bioengineered."

Learn about the new USDA proposal for labeling genetically modified foods and the "little smiley face" sun logo that goes with it.

Arctic Refuge Drilling Is Bad Business -- Read more
Arctic Refuge Drilling Is Bad Business

Late last year, congressional Republicans slipped a provision into the budget that opens the coastal plain of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge to oil and gas drilling—and now the Trump administration is rushing to hold lease sales.

The Sierra Club is committed to supporting the Gwich'in Nation, whose food security and way of life depend on the refuge, in their fight to protect this sacred place. The good news: We've been joined by some some unlikely allies. A group of institutional investors representing $2.52 trillion in assets, has sent a letter to oil and gas companies and major banks urging them not to fund or initiate any oil and gas development in the Arctic Refuge.

Learn more about how we can keep fossil fuel development out of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Stop Pruitt's New Anti-Science Rule

EPA administrator Scott Pruitt is ripping a page from Big Tobacco's playbook: He's proposed a rule to limit the EPA's use of scientific studies where the underlying data isn’t publicly available. Because of privacy concerns around medical data, though, the rule would rule out using landmark studies that link pollution and pesticides to harmful health effects. We have until May 30 to voice our opposition.

How Much Land to Power the Whole U.S. With Solar?

According to Mr. Green, the answer depends a lot on which part of the country you install those solar panels in. Then again, placing more solar panels on rooftops requires no additional land at all.

A Make-or-Break Moment for NAFTA Negotiations

President Trump's trade negotiators are rushing to seal a deal on NAFTA 2.0 in the coming days so it can be pushed through Congress this year. If an agreement isn't reached in the next couple of weeks, it's likely that a vote on any new deal would be delayed until a new Congress is seated in 2019. Approving a bad deal now could let corporations offshore more jobs and pollution, while locking in Trump’s climate-polluting legacy for decades.

Tell your representative in Congress that we need to replace NAFTA with a deal that protects people, not polluters.
